Greyhound racing is considered by many to offer the most consistent and predictable form of all parimutuel racing sports.
Greyhound racing fans do not bet against the track, but against fellow patrons. This is referred to as pari-mutuel wagering (a French expression meaning "betting between ourselves"). All betting is done through totalisator machines. The wagering alternatives vary from track to track, but usually include:
Win: The first greyhound across the finish line wins.
Place: The second greyhound to cross the finish line places;
collect on wager if greyhound wins or places.
Show: The third greyhound to cross the finish line shows;
collect if greyhound wins, places or shows.
Quiniela: The two greyhounds to finish first and second, in either
order, in the same race.
Perfecta: The first two greyhounds in exact order.
Trifecta: The first three greyhounds across the finish line in
Daily Double: The winners of two consecutive races. (Greyhounds running
first in both races coupled on the same mutuel ticket.)
Quiniela Double: The two greyhounds to finish first and second, in either
order, in each of two designated races.
Twin Trifecta: The three greyhounds to finish first, second and third,
in exact order, in each of two designated races.
Pic Six: The first greyhounds to cross the finish line in six
consecutive designated races.
Tri-Super: The three greyhounds to finish first, second, third in
first half and exchange for the greyhounds to finish
first, second, third, fourth in second half.
Bet 3: The winners of three consecutive races.
Having Fun With Pari-Mutuel Wagering
It's a sure bet that joining in the wagering will add to the fun and excitement of your day at the races. There is simply no greater exhilaration than betting on a greyhound and then cheering it to victory!
Wagering at the Park is referred to as Pari-mutuel, meaning: people betting among one another. The track has no financial interest in the outcome of any race; it just holds the stakes and sees that the winners and others receive their share as prescribed by state law.
